How it works

pump.fun lets a coin trade against another pump.fun token instead of SOL: a custom pair. MAIN gives that feature a reason to exist. Every coin paired with $MAIN trades against it, and this page explains what that changes for devs, for traders and for $MAIN holders, with real numbers.

In one minute

On pump.fun a coin can trade against another token instead of SOL. pump.fun calls it a custom pair, and almost nobody uses it yet. MAIN pairs coins with $MAIN: buying it means buying $MAIN first, in the same transaction, without the buyer having to think about it.

So every pair brings $MAIN buys, fees and holders. In return its dev gets more than a SOL coin gives: 1.2× the creator fees, bots that buy the coin once real people do, an airdrop to every $MAIN holder and a bonus at graduation.

Creating a pair

One screen, one signature. The preview shows the coin as it will look on pump.fun, on its page and in the board, while you type.

  1. Image, name, ticker and a description. Links are optional.
  2. Dev buy, at least 0.1 SOL. It lands in the same transaction as the launch, so nobody buys before you. The preview shows how many tokens you get and the market cap after it.
  3. Lock the dev buy on Streamflow for 7, 14 or 30 days. It costs about 0.17 SOL. Without a lock you keep the fee split, but there is no army and no graduation bonus.
  4. Airdrop to $MAIN holders: 2–5% on top of your dev buy. You pay it, your dev buy stays whole. Every pair does it: it's how your coin starts with thousands of holders.
  5. Launch fee of $20, paid in SOL. All of it buys $MAIN and burns it, in the same transaction.
  6. Sign with Phantom, Solflare or Backpack. The coin is created, its fees are locked to its own vault and your dev buy goes through. pump.fun's fee sharing records the lock on chain with the admin revoked: nobody can change it later, not you and not us.

Two creator fees on every trade

Buying a pair is two trades in one transaction: SOL into $MAIN, then $MAIN into the coin. Each one pays pump.fun's usual fees, and each one pays a creator fee. Today pump.fun charges 0.95% plus a 0.30% creator fee on the curve, for SOL coins and for pairs alike.

On $100 of buysSOL coinPair on MAIN
Creator fee on $MAIN (in SOL)—$0.30
Creator fee on the coin$0.30$0.30 in $MAIN
Creator fees in total$0.30$0.60

What a dev earns

You get 60% of both creator fees: $0.18 of the coin's and $0.18 of $MAIN's, so $0.36 on every $100, against $0.30 on a SOL coin. That is 1.2×. It is paid to you automatically from the coin's vault.

The other $0.24 works for your coin too: $0.06 buys it and holds it (the army), $0.06 burns $MAIN, the token your coin is priced in, and of $MAIN's fee, $0.09 buys back $MAIN and burns it and $0.03 goes to the MAIN treasury, which funds the armies of new coins and the graduation bonuses. If pump.fun changes its rates, the shares stay the same and the dollar amounts follow.

Buyback and burn

Every minute the engine claims $MAIN's creator fees to the treasury. 30% of them buys $MAIN on pump.fun and burns exactly what that buy brought, in the next transaction. That's 30% of all of $MAIN's fees: from pair volume and from people trading $MAIN itself. Every buyback shows up in the live feed with both transactions on Solscan.

Pair devs get 60% of the $MAIN fees their own coin's volume paid. What's left after the buyback and the rebates stays in the treasury.

What it costs a trader

A little more than a SOL coin: two trades means pump.fun's fee twice, about 2.5% on a buy instead of 1.25%. The extra creator fee doesn't disappear: it goes back to the dev, the army, the buyback and the treasury, and it lifts $MAIN, which every pair is priced in.

The army

Bots that buy your coin and never sell. Nothing is paid up front, so an empty coin gets no bots. The army starts when your coin passes $10K market cap with a locked dev buy. From then on it spends 20% of your coin's fees, plus up to 40% of what your coin brought to the MAIN treasury. Bots buy in small pieces, never into a spike, and stop when the dev's wallets sell. Every bot is a pump.fun account that looks like your coin: its picture with a BOT mark and a name like PEPEbot12. Each one posts one callout on your coin's pump.fun page, in its own words, so the page fills with people talking about it. Every bot has a number and a transaction: see the Army.

The airdrop

When your coin reaches 30% of its curve, the tokens bought for the airdrop (2–5% on top of your dev buy) go to $MAIN holders in equal shares. Pools, curves, bots and snipers are left out. Your coin gets thousands of holders in one go, and every $MAIN holder gets every coin of the ecosystem.

Graduation

When the curve fills, the coin moves to PumpSwap with $MAIN in its pool for good. It gets 5% of the bonus pool, paid over 30 days to the dev and the first 100 real buyers. If the dev's wallets sell during those 30 days, the rest is cancelled.

Why it can't be drained

Every pair ends in main

The address of every coin paired here ends in main, like 6Hnf…main. It's ground out before your coin is created, so you can tell a $MAIN pair at a glance on pump.fun, DexScreener or Solscan. A copy with another ending is not one of ours.

For $MAIN holders

Every pair buys $MAIN when it's bought, burns $MAIN with its fees and keeps $MAIN in its curve and pool. Every pair also sends you its airdrop. The more coins pair with $MAIN, the less $MAIN there is to buy. The $MAIN page shows how much is locked in pairs and burned, live.

Questions

Do buyers need $MAIN to buy a coin here?

No. On pump.fun they pay in SOL as usual. The swap into $MAIN happens inside the same transaction.

Why is the airdrop required?

It's what $MAIN holders get from every coin, and what gives your coin thousands of holders on day one. You pay 2–5% on top of your dev buy for it, so your own tokens stay whole. It's sent when the coin reaches 30% of its curve.

Can the dev take the fees another way?

No. At launch the coin's fee sharing points 100% to its vault and the admin is revoked. The vault pays the split automatically. Each coin page shows it.

What if $MAIN falls?

Pairs are priced in $MAIN, so their dollar value moves with it. It works both ways: when $MAIN rises, every pair's pool is worth more.

What does a new coin cost?

Your dev buy (at least 0.1 SOL), the airdrop on top of it (2–5% of the dev buy), the $20 launch fee (paid in SOL, all of it buys $MAIN and burns it), about 0.17 SOL if you lock on Streamflow, and network fees. The launch page shows the total before you sign.

Can I create a coin without a lock?

Yes. You keep the fee split. The army and the graduation bonus need a locked dev buy.
